Rev. Dr. Marlon L. Carter was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on February 27, 1979, and graduated from White Station High School class in 1997. As an adolescent to early adulthood, he was a member of Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He served as a youth choir member and usher while regularly attending youth services and events. Militarily, he served in the Tennessee Air National Guard for a decade. Dr. Carter continued his formal education at several post-secondary schools, including:
Marlon completed Clinical Pastoral Education at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, Tennessee. He titled his Doctor of Ministry project Restoring the Soul: A Soulful Approach to Integrating Spiritual & Emotional Care into Palliative Care.
Rev. Carter answered the call to the ministry in 2003 while being a member of New Direction Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He later became a Youth Minister at The Healing Cathedral Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He was ordained as a Minister thereon Sunday, May 19, 2013, with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Tennessee.
While being employed at the Lt. Colonel Luke Weather’s Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Memphis, TN as the Palliative and Bereavement Care, Marlon’s pastoral image is a “Practitioner of Spiritual & Emotional Health.” He is Board-Certified with the National Association of Veterans Affairs Chaplains and the Association of Professional Chaplains.
He married Kimberly Catrice Pettigrew on July 2, 2005. They have three children-Lataria Jenae, Christian Louis, and Trinity Elise. Moreover, Marlon continues to strive at achieving personal goals and aspirations.
